The letter from the office of the President of Singapore was short and sweet and suggested I visit their tourism website for more information, which I was happy to do.

Also called the Lion City, the Garden City, and the Red Dot, Singapore is a city-state that's located on a off the southern tip of Malaysia in Southeast Asia. Singapore is comprised of one main island and 60 smaller islets, is just 278 square miles, and has 5.5 million people. Situated just one degree north of the equator, Singapore has a tropical climate.

While its been inhabited since at least 1300, the Republic of Singapore is currently celebrating its Golden Jubliee 50th birthday having declared its independence from Malaysia in 1965.
